The Santosh Cancer Foundation’s main goal is to lower the level of cancer in the Haryana district of India. An important goal is to increase the level of awareness and early detection; the first of which is the Cancer Free Haryana initiative.
In the absence of routine medical screenings, cancer develops to an advanced stage, and as a result, is much more difficult to treat. In many regions, people do not have access to routine medical screening.
As part of this initiative, the Santosh Cancer Foundation takes awareness and community-based medical screening to the next level. This means setting up screening camps and awareness programs in the community and providing medical consultations and initial examinations as part of the service.
Some of the more important functions of these prevention of cancer camps are:
- awareness of the symptoms of cancer
- prevention of ill health
- early diagnosis of cancer
The most important of all these functions described is that it brings medical care to the community and breaks down barriers of distance, affordability, and access. Cancer Free Haryana envisions a society in which early detection can save lives and in which nobody is unaware of the health risks that they face.
